I had a dream of the future which many friends considered unreal, dangerous, unattainable. But I went ahead and made that future happen.

I believe magick takes place in the spaces between the atoms, between the worlds and galaxies – the ‘no man’s land’ of void is anything but, instead being the area in which dreams, ideas, inspirations are transmitted, moulded, made real. So, for me, in a very real and I believe practical as well as spiritual way, I see what we reference as ‘real’ in our lives emerging from the ‘unreal’, or the unknowable – the cauldron of our lives.

WINTER

It is Yule, the Solstice. I am Ceridwen, and from out of my bottomless cauldren the Sun King, the Child of Hope is reborn. A tiny seed, long nurtured by the insulating blanket of snow and leaves ripens and begins to grow along with the first snowdrops.

There was a time long before the dawn of humanity, or even life on earth, when the sea covered the whole planet. There was nothing but time unmeasured, space uncharted, the wind, gigantic electrical storms and water everywhere. Then something sparked and life began in that vast ocean.

Our ancient ancestors could be found in that strange soup, single-celled organisms which were anything but simple when one considers they contained deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA, the building block of all life on Earth which would go on to become ever more layered and complex as life evolved. Those early strands remain within all of us. Is it any wonder our connection to water is so strong? It is almost timeless, a thread which draws us back through time, through the early mammals, the dinosaurs, the amphibians, the fish - back to the water from where we came.

I have always had an intimate relationship with water, from the moment I was conceived in my mother’s womb - spending nine months immersed in her nutritive fluids - right the way through my life in the form of baptism as a baby, the first ejaculation as a teenager and innumerable cuts resulting from accidents over the years, spilling red blood which is itself life-force in watery suspension. I bathe in the stuff, shower with it, paddle in it at the seaside. It flows through me, over me and in me.
